Infobit #10 – Google’s New Music Store

Article: http://www.fastcompany.com/1795464/why-google-music-targets-icloud-not-itunes

Twitter Summary: Google launches new music website to challenge iTunes

Google’s new music store – “Google Music Beta” has recently been released with the sole purpose of challenging the 70% market share that itunes has on the music market. Google Music Beta is a service where users can store up to 20,000 songs in a cloud and stream them onto almost any android device including tablets and smartphones with the newer android OS.

The obvious difference of this is that instead of downloading music (Apple/iTunes) with google music beta, you stream music through cloud. This is cool because you are now not limited to the 8 – 16 – 32 – 64 gb that your phone or ipod stores. To some this might not be a big deal but for someone like me with a 64 gb iphone and 50gb’s are used just for music, I appreciate a service like this.

I’ve heard of a few companies trying to offer a service like this such as Pandora (app on the iphone) and a problem that lots of these websites had is the data abuse your phone takes while streaming when not on wifi. This is a problem for people who don’t have unlimited data plans. You could get caught with a huge phone bill real quick.

I’m excited to see how well Google Music Beta works, hopefully they don’t put it to the side like they did google plus :X
