Personal Blog Post #6
Chelsey Patrick
I finally finished my video! I realized that I am not good at being in front of the camera so I put my own creative twist on making a video from my iMovie application on my computer. It took a while but it was a lot of fun. I don’t remember if I blogged about the social network event night or not yet- but that is worth noting here. I found that the event where we had to go meet potential people to help our company out was a good IDEA, but I don’t think it had the same value in the end that we maybe thought it would. Last year, we were there because we wanted advice for our elevator pitches, but this year it felt much more like we were asking a serious request from the entrepreneurs.
Even though our goal was only to get their cards and add them on LinkedIn, it seemed like I was taking advantage of their openness when I was only going to add them to get the marks for the assignment. I got two business cards from equally interesting individuals: one was a man named Nadeem Esmail of the Fraser Institute who was very reserved and had a lot of business experience, but the conversation wasn’t overly stimulating or helpful. The other man’s name was Kelly Cherniwchan who was a Chief Operations Officer at Circle Cardiovascular Imaging. Kelly was outgoing and was telling me and another woman about the new project he was working on involving upcoming health care advances- it was truly fascinating and he gave us pointers on pitching and presenting our ideas with pride.
Although this night was fun and it was a good conversation with new people, I couldn’t bring myself to add these gentleman on LinkedIn. I didn’t want to look like just another student who got their information for a grade.
