InfoBit #3 – Steve Jobs’ Stanford Commencement Speech

Video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc

Twitter Summary:

In 2005 Steve Jobs speaks to the graduating class and tells stories about his life, love, business, success, and even loss.

With the recent passing of Steve Jobs, I’d be remised if I didn’t mention him at least once in this blog. Many people can say that they admire him, love him, dislike his products, say he’s a mean person, but no one can say that they don’t respect, appreciate and are amazed but what he has done. Personally I believe that no one person has influenced my generation more than him. From the MAC computers, to the iPod and iPhone to the availability of music to the masses online, his impact on the world can’t be overstated and his knowledge and influence will be missed.

The video I shared is filled with quotes that personally inspires me to strive to be the best I can be, follow my heart, and most importantly do something I truly love to do and pursue my dreams. Two of my favorite quotes from his speech are:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forwards, you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.”

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other peoples thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

As I said before Steve Jobs will be missed not only by me but by people all around the world. Although most of us have never met the man or never even would have, I can say that I appreciate what he’s done to impact my life, and hope that his vision will live on.
