Identifying the Market

I have tried to identify specific companies in Calgary that would fit our niche market of green, organic, ethical people. We are hoping that if we can target in on some specific companies, we can find people who would be interested in our service. From my own experiences and some searching I have done, I have found the following organic, local, and/or ethical businesses in Calgary that would help us narrow down our target customer:

1) Planet Organic groceries: www.planetorganic.ca
Planet Organic Market is a Canadian grocery store that offers products that are "good for you, good for the earth and good food."

2) Yoga Shala: http://www.yogashalacalgary.com/photo.php
The Yoga Shala is a local business that is focused on building a community of yogis and offers a great variety of classes for those of us who are wanting to try new things.

3) Fifth Ave Yoga: http://www.fifthavenueyoga.com/
Fifth Ave Yoga is a local Calgary yoga company that is passionate about yoga and offering the right environment for their clients.

4) Green Goddess Cleaning Service: http://www.veiledimpressions.net/gg.html
The Green Goddess Cleaning Service is a local, environmentally friendly cleaning service that uses non-toxic, clean products to clean houses and businesses.

5) The Coup Restaurant: http://www.thecoup.ca/
The Coup is personally my favourite restaurant in Calgary. They use organic and local food as often as possible and make every item on the menu from scratch- nothing frozen. They use recycled products and offset their waste by using natural energy sources and planting trees monthly. A restaurant that supports local farmers and businesses while feeding people fresh, healthy and tasty food!

6) Journey Of Health store: http://www.journeyofhealth.net/
The Journey of Health store is a small, local, family-owned business that is focused on health and nutrition through natural products and raw-foods.

7) The Gratitude Cafe: http://gratitudecafe.ca/
The Gratitude Cafe is a cafe in Calgary that is environmentally friendly (low energy lighting, recycled dishes, chemical free products), offers vegan and gluten-free food, supports other local businesses, and donates to charitable organizations.

8) Gagne Fitness: http://gagnefitness.com/about.html
Gagne fitness is a small, family owned, local gym in Calgary.

9) Nature Zone Vitamins & Therapy: http://www.naturezonevitamins.com/
NatureZone is a local Calgary business that offers quality vitamins and herbal products at low, wholesale prices and is located in a small bungalow in the heart of Calgary's trendy Marda-loop district.

10) Eggs & More: http://www.eggsandmore.ca/
Eggs & More is a family restaurant in Calgary that offers "a big city meal...small town deal". This local restaurant focuses on a friendly environment and healthy, fresh food.

  1. So I am a little confused. I thought your idea was to get all of the different "Groupon" websites to collaborate into one. Why are you researching individual vendors? Or is it to further explore what your target market are looking for?

  2. Good question. That is still our idea but we have been debating on whether to go niche or general. For niche that will involve aggregating all the ethical deals that exist online into a single location and allow the user to filter the deals based on their interests, wants or needs. The reason we posted this is to identify potential target markets that are fully involved in providing ethical products, get their feedback and test out our product with their consumers. We are still working on how to better target the niche ethical market and figuring out if it is the best market for our product. Any feedback is appreciated.
